About 3.5% of students are homeschooled each year. So if you’re recently starting homeschool, you’re not alone!

Although 3.5% doesn’t seem like a lot, that’s over 2 million kids getting an education at home instead of going into school.

If you want tips for starting homeschool as a high schooler, you’ve found the right place. Keep reading to learn how to handle the switch!

You Can Be Involved in Extracurriculars

You may not immediately think about being involved when you are getting an education at home.

How are you supposed to join extracurriculars? Where do you join sports? There are many clubs you can join outside of the home, and some homeschooling companies actually have these experiences as part of their curriculum and extra options.

Use an Organizational System

From your daily school schedule to keeping track of your curriculum for homeschool, it can all become jumbled if there isn’t a way to keep it organized.

Whether you use a calendar, a planner, or a technology program to keep track of your life and to-dos, having some type of organizational system is a must.

Create a Road Map

When creating a curriculum with homeschooling, you’ll want to begin with the end in mind. Be sure to look at what most colleges, or the colleges you’re interested in, requirements are for admission. This means what types of credits that you will need to attend the college.

One of the benefits of homeschooling is that in addition to the requirements for curriculum, you can also add on any electives that you are interested in. This may also help you figure out what you’re passionate about in life!

Create a Designated Learning Space

When working from home, or learning from home, it can be easy to find yourself working in bed or on the couch. However, that is not conducive to learning to the best of your ability.

To learn, it’s best to be in a space that gives you ample room to work, learn, and read. You should have your calendar near you, pens and pencils, your computer, and a shelf with your books.

Set Learning Goals

Whether you are completing high school at home or in an actual classroom, setting goals and sticking to them is a great way to accomplish the things you want in a given year!

Make sure that your goals are achievable and relevant to what you want to do. They may be goals about extracurriculars or goals about grades.
