My child needs special accommodations (i.e. - Gifted and Talented or has a Physical Impairment, diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, Dyslexia, Autism, etc.)
The SCAIHS Special Needs Program is for any student, in grades K-12, who is functioning substantially above or below grade level or has a disability that causes educational difficulties. This student usually requires an educational plan that varies from that which is traditionally followed by students. Accommodations for assignments and testing, as well as frequent remediation, are often needed. All of these things are permitted when the student is enrolled in this program. In many ways, the Special Needs Program is also for the parent. You will be facing many new challenges as you home school this student. Whether it is choosing curriculum, finding a new way to re-teach a concept, or working around deficit areas, our trained staff is here to assist you. Their encouragement will help you to succeed in this challenging, but rewarding, endeavor.

Along with your application and student forms, we will need one of the following items:

  • Doctor’s Diagnosis
  • Psychological Evaluation

My child is not in school yet, but about to go into kindergarten, and this is my oldest or only child.
You are a parent that plans! Kindergarten is completely fun. The kindergarten year should be a time of joyful discovery, laying a foundation for life-long learning.  Exploring, observing, listening, following, practicing and playing should be common elements of a kindergartener’s experience.

Here are the forms you need.

Only the Application is needed.

***Note:If you are enrolling more than one child and any of the others are above kindergarten, then you only need to fill out the K5 Student Enrollment Form and submit with the other child’s information.

I have an child in elementary school.
One of the key elements that draws people toward enrolling with the SCAIHS Elementary Program is the personal contact with experienced elementary staff throughout the year. Curriculum counseling, transcripts, overseeing reports, teaching tips, etc., are all part of the services that we offer to meet the individual needs of your child.

I have a child in middle school and they are not taking any high school courses.
The middle school years provide a great number of changes for 7th and 8th grade students. The middle school department, administered under the supervision of the high school program, desires to help parents home school through these important years. Our services to middle school parents include curriculum counseling, informing parents about extracurricular opportunities, keeping permanent records, issuing transcripts, and assistance in planning for high school.

I am out of the country or out of the state of South Carolina.
We wish to be members of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS) while living in a state other than South Carolina or in a country other than the United States of America because we desire the services and personal accountability that SCAIHS provides. We acknowledge that membership in SCAIHS alone may not provide legal accountability for residents outside South Carolina. We are aware that SCAIHS recommends that we take any additional steps necessary to comply with the compulsory attendance requirements of the state or country in which we reside.
