The Global Home Education Conference (GHEC) was started in order to provide support and encouragement to homeschoolers around the world. The first conference was held in Berlin in 2012 and the second conference was held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The third conference is coming up on May 15-19, 2018 in Russia. The following link provides information about this conference, including the program, speakers, and background: http://www.cvent.com/events/global-home-education-conference-2018/event-summary-ba9619d2acb14e89bc45845c939bc0ff.aspx
SCAIHS has been represented at the first two conferences by SCAIHS Board Member Ray Sheen. At this third conference, Ray will be joined by SCAIHS Board Member Zan Tyler. Both Ray and Zan will be participating as panel members in some of the sessions.
Homeschooling is growing around the world. However, just like it happened in the United States during the 1980’s (when the homeschooling movement started to blossom), there are attacks and questions from many of those in government. Today homeschooling is legal in most countries – but not all. And even in those countries where it is a legal option, it is often difficult for homeschooling families to gain access to resources and support. The Global Home Education Conference strives to encourage homeschoolers everywhere.
The homeschooling movement in Russia is growing rapidly. Their leaders offered to host this year’s GHEC conference to further encourage and support Russian homeschoolers. For that reason, the conference is comprised of two parts – the first one to be held in St. Petersburg, and the second one in Moscow. In both locations, there will be many local Russian homeschoolers in attendance, in addition to the international homeschooling representatives.
To help SCAIHS members be a part of this conference, Ray Sheen will provide us a daily update of the activities and interesting experiences of conference attendees.
