Zan Peters Tyler
Zan is the founder and former president of SCAIHS. She has worked tirelessly for over two decades in both the judicial and legislative arenas in South Carolina to effect positive change for home-schooling families. Zan has served on numerous panels, committees, and boards in both the public and private sectors, including the South Carolina Goals 2000 Panel and Advisory Board for the National Center for Home Education. Zan coauthored the book Anyone Can Homeschool and authored the book 7 Tools for Cultivating Your Child’s Potential. She is Acquisitions Editor and Speaker for Apologia Educational Ministries.
Joseph E. Tyler
Joe graduated from USC with a Management Science major. Joe is Project Manager and Speaker for Apologia Educational Ministries speaking to home-school parents nationally and internationally. He is one of the founding board members of SCAIHS serving continually since 1990 and is currently the Chairman. He and his wife, Zan, have three children and home schooled from 1984-2005 when their third SCAIHS graduate marched with the SCAIHS Class of 2005.
Robert E. Jackson, MD
Robert has been a family practitioner since 1985, and is the co-founder and former chairman of the board of Carolina Pregnancy Center. He has been a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, and the 2013 recipient of the E.A. McDowell Award from the Southern Baptist Convention, as well as a past member of Christian Life and Public Affairs Committee of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention. All nine of their children have been home schooled throughout their lives, with eight having graduated through SCAIHS, and one continuing instruction at home. Robert joined the SCAIHS Board in 2012.
William C. Wood, Jr.
Bill is an attorney with Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough Law Firm. Bill and his wife, Tammy, joined SCAIHS in 1997. Their eldest daughter graduated with honors with the SCAIHS Class of 2005 and their second daughter graduated in 2008. The longevity of their home school was extended by the addition of their youngest five (four girls and one boy) who were all adopted from China. Bill joined the SCAIHS Board in 2005 and currently serves as Vice Chairman.
Raymond L. Sheen
Ray is President of the consulting firm, Product & Process Innovations, Inc. He is a veteran business leader with over 20 years of engineering management, quality management, and project management experience. Ray and his wife, Holly, home schooled their two daughters from birth through high school. Ray served on the statewide home schooling organization boards of Connecticut (TEACH) and Iowa (NICHE) and joined the SCAIHS Board in 2001. He currently serves as Treasurer. Ray also serves on the Advisory Board of the National Home Education Research Institute.
Stephan A. “Alex” Zelling is co-founder and co-owner of Palmetto Payroll Solutions, established in 1996. He and his wife, Suzanne, joined SCAIHS in 2005 when their daughter was just starting school. He is a homeschool activist sincerely proclaiming its merits.
Stanton L. Scoma
Stanton was home schooled in South Carolina from the third grade until graduating in 2005. He holds both a M.S. in nuclear engineering and B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of South Carolina. He married his beautiful bride, Lindsey, in 2016 and looks forward to homeschooling their future children.
